  • Comments Thread For: Eubank Jr: One Of The Best Decisions I've Made In My Career Is To Train With Roy Jones

A night that didn't turn out so well for the friend he was on hand to support ultimately turned out to reshape the career of Chris Eubank Jr. The second-generation boxer from Brighton, England has spent the past two months training with former four-division champion and all-time great Roy Jones Jr. at the latter's private facility in his hometown of Pensacola, Florida. Their working relationship began with a happenchance meet in Las Vegas. Jones was in town to work the corner of super middleweight prospect Kevin Newman II, who was due to face Genc Pllana on a Showtime-televised card this past February live from Sam's Town along the Vegas strip.

I could imagine Chris really sticking it on Roy in the gym and announcing to the world that he’d beaten the GoaT RJJ!!

Roy knows a lot about the sport and has a unique view on things. I just think it's hard for a fighter, who used to be on the top of the game, to be selfless, dedicated and teaching enough to be a successful trainer at the top level. I'm sure Roy worked with a lot of different fighters in the past decade with different styles, but when you've been so successful with one style, you'll automatically tend to try to teach that style, and Roy's style is extremely unique, it can't really be taught.

Can Roy be a benefit for Eubank or anyone for that matter? Absolutely, but should he be a chief trainer? that remains to be seen.

We need to remember that a change of trainer CAN be a good thing (Chris Algieri). But it depends on the fighter actually listening (Adrien Broner).

He doesnt have many good descisions to pick from so naturally and half decent choice will be his best one.

Roy was a great fighter but he hasn't had much success as a trainer.

Guys seem to come and go with him.
