Comments Thread For: Hearn Details How Eubank Jr. Lost Golovkin Shot Over a Photo

Promoter Eddie Hearn has always had a hard time when it came to negotiating with Chris Eubank Jr. and his father, Chris Eubank Sr. In 2016, Hearn was attempting to put together a deal with Eubank Jr. As part of that deal, Eubank Jr. would have collided with then unified middleweight world champion Gennady Golovkin in the UK.

Sound like entitlement from both sides.

Both sides being Eubanks and Who? Hearns? Golovkin?

The Eubanks didn’t want the fight. There were many more weird demands. Clearly scurrying for a demand that would keep the fight from being a reality.

nahh, just listen to this. You KNOW 'English' was trying to get gangsta on Dad. I even edited it for Chris' voice.

“Then Chris Sr looked at me and said, ‘Edward, there’th one more thing. In your father’th office ith a picture of me punching Nigel Benn. It altho hath the official scorecardth from the fight, you must remove the picture and give it to me. If you do I will thign the deal.’

"So I’m like, ‘Okay, I’ve just given you a load of money and everything you want, and now you want a picture off the wall in my Dad’s office?’ ‘Yeth, thith ith correct.’ I said, ‘Okay, sounds alright to me.’ Went into my Dad’s office, ‘Alright Dad, it was quite painful, but we’ve done the deal. Just one thing, you know that picture over there, can we have that?’
“He said, ‘Well what do you mean?’ I said, ‘Well Eubank said if you give him that picture the deal’s done.’ He said, ‘Tell Eubank to go and stick it up his behind, that is my favourite picture in the world and there is no way I’m removing that from my wall.’

Chris has to be referring to Benn/Eubank II which ended in a draw. He probably thinks there's evidence of a fix in that photo.

Why would you allow a deal to die because of a photo? Eubank snr could have talk or asked for that picture at anytime. They really don’t want that fight if that’s true.

I recall this quite well, seems daddy backed out for his son's sake. GGG isn't my boy but he would have destroyed Eubank Jr. if that fight had gone down. I think his camp knew this and this excuse is lousy and idk why it comes up now.

This may be the dumbest reason I've ever heard for a fight falling through.
