Comments Thread For: Stephen Espinoza: Showtime Will Stage High-Level Fights Post Pandemic

Showtime is looking to stage scintillating slugfests with high intrigue as soon as the coronavirus crisis is over. Stephen Espinoza, president of sports and event programming for Showtime, said that once the premium cable provider returns back to boxing, fans should expect the crme de la crme from a quality standpoint pitting the best fighters the sport has to offer against one another.

Lol Stephen Espinoza is so full of $h!t. Showtime hasn’t put on a good fight since 2018 and I had to pay $80 for it.

Not even sure what fight you're referring to.

Last time I watched a fight on Showtime was 2013 or 2014

That's funny, because Showtime wasn't putting on high level boxing pre- pandemic.

Fury-Wilder 1 was on showtime ppv. That’s the last fight I can remember that was worthwhile on showtime.

i believe him! lets ignore that espinoza and haymon are in cahoots and showtime was used as haymons dumping ground for bad fights so he could use showtimes budget to get his guys paid.

What? Whether or not you watched, 2017 and 2018 on Showtime were fantastic value.
Just off the top of my head: AJ-Klitschko (live not delayed), Hurd-Lara, every Wilder fight including Ortiz I, every Charlo fight until Dec 2018 (including JRock, Trout, Lubin), every Tank fight including Pedraza, most Spence fights including Brook, Mikey's comeback fights including Zlaticanin, Garcia-Porter, Thurman-Garcia, Santa Cruz-Mares II, etc. All regular Showtime, none of those were PPV.

Did you seriously watch none of those fights? Showtime boxing ****** in 2019 and everyone knows that. But don't try to rewrite history.

Everyone is going to have to put together high level fights post pandemic. I don't think anyone could afford not to.

First, people aren't going to be as easy to let go of their money for a ******* fight or even one that might be remotely uninteresting. In the past, Okay fights gave people a reason to leave their house and spend money on something they weren't 100% confident with. That won't happen nowadays.

With MMA looking to take a head start lead, it's going to be hard to get attention back to boxing if boxing either loses younger crowds with this move, or general public interested. I know there are die hard boxing fans that no matter what, it's their sport and will watch it even if it came back on a year later, but with that said, probably 75% of $$$ made in boxing is from casuals.

We just can't afford to put on terrible fights, period. Any loss of audience, is going to hurt the sport badly more than ever now. Promoters need to put aside their BS and politics and start making the fights people want. I know the idea of milking fights equals more $$$ but there might not be any fight to milk if they wait too long.
