Bob Arum expected a large contingent of Japanese fans to pack Mandalay Bay Events Center on Saturday night to witness Naoya Inoue's return to the United States. Like every other scheduled bout in boxing, Inoue's bantamweight championship unification fight against the Philippines' Johnriel Casimero was postponed indefinitely last month due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Inoue-Casimero might be delayed longer than some other bouts because coronavirus-related travel restrictions could keep Inoue from leaving Japan for the United States for an extended period even after American cities reopen.

Those Japanese boxers are top notch but they never want to leave japan. I get it, it’s in their culture. I wonder why we don’t see too many home grown American Asian boxers ?

The money is better in Japan for their elite fighters. I don't think it's a cultural issue. If TR offers better purses on American soil, Inoue will continue to fight in the US.

Because of immigrant demographics, the talent pool (in boxing) for Asian-Americans is limited. Instead, it seems to be more geared towards academic and corporate environments.

I'd say Donaire, Rodriguez, and Payano are some solid names not just that but the way he beat Payano and Rodriguez down and went to war with a veteran like Donaire says something about his caliber.
