"Are you not entertained?" Whoops, wrong movie. Almost a decade before Russell Crowe faced down the Praetorian Guard, some tigers, and a future nemesis to Bruce Wayne for Oscar glory, a cross section of talented character actors and emerging young talents got together for their own two hour contribution to the name Gladiator.

While boxing is my favourite sport, Im not really crazy about boxing movies....to me, it is a hard sport to duplicate by non-boxers. Diggstown was pretty good, but it was a comedy.

On another note, Cuba Gooding's career really went down after he won his Oscar. At least Nicholas Cage had quite a few hits (Conair, Faceoff, City of Angels) after he won his and before he started doing junk.

I believe it was shoulder roll who I was discussing this movie with after someone posted a gif from it of Cuba Gooding Jr flying 15 feet out of the ring from a back handed slap via Dennehey ( rip just a few weeks back) quite recently . Prolly what inspired his email to the scene to cover this flick for this installment of boxing without boxing .

The article really sums it up , but worth checking out for any posters who haven't seen this flick yet . I watched it til the copy I had rented out wore down and the picture was pretty much unwatchable( would have been cheaper to buy then to rent weekly until the tape was worn out lol ) . I liked it that much granted I was in my early teen years and it prolly wasn't as good as I recalled . But its def worth checking out , and even if it is only nostalgia that let's me enjoy it again , I will be checking it out again tomorrow. WAR Tommy reilly !!!!!

Yeah, I remember seeing that GIF posted right after Dennehy's passing.

I feel like Gladiator is a script that could be re-made into something much better, possibly. The core of its story is pretty compelling. It just feels like the producers consistently picked the low-hanging fruit when they made it (like the way-too-eager-to-be-funny friend).

Also, the cinematography was just beautiful, easily the best part of the movie. It was Tak Fujimoto's if I recall properly, who also shot Silence of the Lambs. Not the best boxing movie by far, but some of the most beautiful shots.

It’s actually one of my favorite movies ever.

Chicago has a huge boxing tradition and this was going down in a few cities. I know Sacramento had a big underground boxing ring.

In most port towns of Latin America you have boxers so it’s also a huge part of our culture back home.

This movie was lit and Cuba was amazing. It captured Chicago where everybody is either on the same side or at each other’s throats. I knew
Chicago in the 90s, reminded me of LA how it was segregated.

I thought the whole School Angle and girlfriend was nice. The movie was cliche but good. I saw it back when O was actually fighting though, not when it was released. I was a little
Kid Back in 93 so I caught on late 90’s, but it was still great.

Minority TV in general had a lot of plots about boxing.

              I’d love to see some
              Review of the penitentiary trilogy.

NY Undercover had Monte Barrett, Shannon Briggs and John Seda was a silver gloves winner.

OZ had a huge boxing tournament.

              Moesha had Fernando Vargas.

Boxing will never die and forever be the greatest.

                Excellent article describing the movie.

What a coincidence, I saw this movie yesterday. Is not for all boxing fans, but is a gem worth a look.

I didn't realize this was directed by the same guy that directed Road House. Another film which I enjoy.

There's something to be said about a good, entertaining action movie. Even if the writing and acting isn't the greatest. Not everything has to be Shakespeare, right?
