  • Comments Thread For: Vergil Ortiz: I'd Really Like To Face Danny Garcia, Yordenis Ugas

Vergil Ortiz Jr. still intends to have a big 2020 campaign-whenever his 2020 schedule is permitted to begin. The unbeaten welterweight knockout artist was universally hailed as 2019 Prospect of the Year, with March 28 to have served as his official first post-graduate affair. Ortiz Jr. was due to face Samuel Vargas atop a DAZN-streamed card from The Forum in Inglewood, California, only for the event to serve among the first wave of boxing shows to have been canceled in the wake of the ongoing coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic.

As promising as Ortiz looks, he's not gonna get a shot at Garcia anytime soon. DSG gonna get Spence, or maybe Pacquiao next. After that he might look at possible rematches with Porter and/or Thurman, depending what they're doing. Retirement probably isn't too far away, and is almost certainly more attractive than fighting up-and-comers!

Respect to the man for calling out Ugas. No one else is doing that as that is a high risk, low reward type of fight.

And I believe this man is serious about taking these fights. Very honest man. Admitted that he probably can't beat Spence right now but in two years would have a great chance.

Young fella is going to go far and will have a memorable run.
