"When a black fighter fights with defensive awareness he gets a bad rep for being boring often. The criticism is disproportioned. But I always ask people this question who are overly critical of “boxers”. If you’re SON was learning how to fight, who would you want him to fight like? Pernell Whitaker or Arturo Gatti? I love Gatti but I haven’t had one person tell me Gatti."

Love me some Bread! I do have a son, and all I showed him was Sweet Pea & Money May videos! Now I have a grandson, and I plan on showing him the same, adding Loma (The Eminem of Boxing) to the mix! "Hit and not get hit!" I love Rigo too! Brandon Figueroa vs. Guillermo Rigondeaux @ 122! Make It Happen!

Of course we don’t want our kids getting hit but boxers aren’t our kids... isn’t Hagler vs Hearns considered one of the best fights ever? They didn’t fight to hit and not get hit.. I enjoy that style more then the defensive one.

Floyd is someone's kid! His father taught him well! Have you seen Tommy Hearns lately? Have you heard him speak? He sounds 10 times worse than Floyd Sr.! Very Sad!

Its possible to defensively responsible and still be aggressive. In fact it may take even more skill than running around the ring. James Toney, a young Floyd, Benitez etc..

Well that’s what you sign up for when you box. The man was cashing those checks back in the day... it is sad though I get your point. I’m speaking from an entertainment perspective not health. But, you as a boxer know every fight you risk your life and these boxers still go in there because they either love the game or love the check or both... feel bad for Hearns Ali or any other fighter that suffered life changing health effects. Boxing is that way unfortunately

I grew up in Detroit during Hearns' rise to fame. Yes, he sounds punchy now, but even when he was young he had problems putting two sentences together. I'm not saying he was dumb or anything, but when he was being interviewed on television, he would lose his train of thought constantly. If you read print interviews, he has it together and has real insightful comments. He's just not made for live tv interviews lol.

Yes it's a very dangerous sport! I just love seeing the guy who is hard to hit, but yet hitting his opponent with ease! "Sweet Science!" What kills me is there's a lot of folks who say they hate Sweet Pea, Floyd, Lara, and Rigo, yet they love Lomachenko! Similar to those who hate Rap music until Eminem comes along, then suddenly...

I'm talking about his slurred speech! That's brain damage! It's very noticeable! Very Sad!

                  This is from 2006:

Today, Hearns can be difficult to understand. He mumbles and, like many boxers who have taken thousands of punches to the head, he slurs his words. But when asked to reflect on his long career, he is more lucid. 'Where have all the years gone?' He stops. 'No, what do I really think about? These guys are all gone. But I'm still here!'

Yeah, he's taken too many blows. The fact that he isn't a good public speaker adds to it. When I saw PBC was going to use him for commentary I knew how that was going to look. Painful. I'm glad he presumably made some cash.
