Comments Thread For: Devin Haney Only Moving Up To 140 For Mikey Garcia

Former lightweight champion Devin Haney (24-0) is progressing well from right shoulder surgery after his November unanimous decision victory over Alfredo Santiago. He relinquished his title when he learned that his injury would require him to go under the knife and is now the champion in recess.

You signed with the wrong promoter, Haney. That's why you'll never get the Lomachenko fight.

You were even his mandatory and they STILL found a way to swerve you.

I like this kid Haney but let me say

You are no Mayweather or as gifted a fighter as even Gervonta and many may disagree but I’m speaking natural ability from what I have witnessed. Then you talking about Garcia who can take a big 147 power, and will be coming all night, yep all night long! Negro please; and nobody running from you especially Loma.

"Haney says he isn't interested in that fight because Top Rank chairman Bob Arum has already said that he isn't interested in having either fighter face Haney anytime in the near future."

I didn't see this! Anyone have a link?

The real question, why should anyone fight Devin Haney? Haney wants big fights sure, he looks like he has the goods, YES...BUT...Devin is basically an unknown. Devin is not recognizable, does not have that spectacular KO power nor can he fill the seats or represent big enough money to draw out opponents. Devin simply hasn't fought enough, beaten a name or accomplished anything to stand on. 135 is in a division filled with a lot of brand names like Coke and Pepsi and he is at best the RC Cola.

In the end, Devin can ask for fights but there isn't the demand from the general public because they simply don't know who he is.

I personally think he is the real deal but that's just me.

I wont disagree I think he is extremely talented but he needs to dig deep and chase every big name at 135 by any means necessary. In a time where media is everywhere at all times a fighter can push for big fights if they try hard enough instead of just name dropping.

This guy is becoming one of the most entitled divas in the sport. A virtual unknown and only wants Lomachenko at 135, only wants Mikey at 140...how about you work your way there and fight some of the other contenders for your shot? Why just Mikey at 140, what's wrong with Prograis, Postol, Taylor and Ramirez at 140?

Only two guys (really one) that have a chance against Mikey down there are Loma and maybe some day Ryan Garcia. I don't think Lopez, Davis, or Haney would last too long against Mikey Garcia. I would certainly entertain any of those matchups though.
