Comments Thread For: Ray Mancini: I'm So Happy That I Came Up At The Time I Did

By Thomas Gerbasi - By this date forty years ago, 19-year-old Ray Mancini had already fought three times. But he was just getting started, because when 1980 ended, he had gone from 4-0 as a pro to 16-0, fighting 12 times in the calendar year. Yeah, things have changed since then. "I'm so happy that I came up at the time I did," said Mancini. "And I'm...

    Good article.

'Boom Boom' was a bit before my time, but as a 25-year fan, his story is never far from the fans who know the history of boxing.

I can't recall the name of the doco about Ray's life and career, but I remember it was revealing and insightful.

It was definitely unfair the treatment he and his family received after the incident that will forever be linked with his name - the death of Duk Koo Sim.

One of the great inside fighters and a must-watch for all boxing fans.

He might be happy he fought in a great era but he would have made a lot more money if was fighting in 2019.

Yes I remember Boom Boom he fit the time perfect or the time was perfect for him. Good fighter good era in boxing glad he remembers it as the best, that is the way it should be. He did a lot for boxing by going in the ring. His story was just that, nothing manufactuered just his life in and around the ring. Like that qoute about the sizzle. Nice touch.

A good read. Mancini always comes off as a genuine person.
Also good choice for the picture to go with the article. It just oozes sex appeal lol

I love that advice about getting your respect and hitting guys back low when they hit you low. Turn their protective cup into a necktie.

Fernando Vargas should have done that in his fight with Felix Trinidad.
