Comments Thread For: Devin Haney Sees Luke Campbell vs. Javir Fortuna as 50-50 Fight

A purse bid for the vacant WBC lightweight title was called off in January when the handlers for Luke Campbell and Javier Fortuna agreed to terms to make the fight. Campbell is represented by Eddie Hearn's Matchroom Boxing while Fortuna is handled by Sampson Lewkowicz.

I'm still trying to figure how Luke Campbell is worthy of Devin Haney's WBC lightweight title, considering he ( Luke ) was just given a shot for the green-belt vs. Vasily Lomachenko and immediately granted another opportunity, in spite of taking a L?

Its like Nonito Donaire getting rewarded another shot vs. Nordine Oubaali for he WBC bantamweight title, even after the 'Monster' Naoya Inoue beat him in the WBSS finals for the WBA ; at least Donaire paid his dues for 19 years as a pro and is closing his career ; but guys like Campbell and even Vasily Lomachenko when Salidoe whooped his ass had never done nothing to deserve such privilege.

I ask the boxingscene, is it fair that the real WBC lightweight champion Devin Haney not get the same breaks that Campbell ( who never done shit in this sport ) has been afforded? I mean Haney is coming back in July and they already virtually stripped him by handing him a 'Champion in recess' title, meanwhile the actual title is taken away for the second time. And what a surprise, Luke Campbell and Eddie Hearn are involved in the plot, like the last time.

I hope Javier Fortuna whoops your ass in the UK, Campbell! Its a disgrace for the WBC that more deserving contenders like Emmanuel Tagoe or even Lee Selby are denied their opportunity to give Luke Campbell a third try.

Haney won the vacant WBC title by beating some bum so it makes no sense to call him the real champion. Also, the WBC is just following its own rules. Haney hurt his shoulder and wasn't able to make his mandatory title defense against Fortuna, so they ordered Fortuna to fight the next highest ranked contender, which happened to be Campbell.
