Comments Thread For: Atlas Praises Joshua For Bouncing Back, Expects Him To Beat Pulev

Veteran trainer and Hall of Famer Teddy Atlas has praised the rematch efforts of IBF, IBO, WBA, WBO heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua. Back in June 2019, Joshua was dropped four times and stopped in the seventh round by huge underdog, Andy Ruiz. But in the December rematch, Joshua got revenge when fought smart by stayed at a distance to easily outbox Ruiz over the twelve round distance.

WTF is there to praise? He got knocked the flip out and in the rematch he ran away the whole fight and was only able to prove he could survive. I don’t call that a win and Freddy Atlas is basically clout chasing as always for the cameras

If three judges and anybody with a pair of eyes scoring a fight by a wide points decision is not a win, then what is it? A loss? I suppose that would mean Mayweather’s 50-0 is actually something like 25-25 in your eyes, right?

Stick and move, pal, stick and move.

It's not like Andy Ruiz Jr did anything praise-worthy. And that's what Ruiz gets for adopting the sumo wrestler diet instead of training properly for the biggest fight of his life. What was AJ supposed to do? Accommodate him?

How come atlas says mike tyson never won a fight because he got beaten in upsets, his wins have asterisks, etc

but joshua is a hero after a stay-busy opponent slapped him around like a child?

After a while you realize all of Atlas' "boxing analysis" just comes down to personal crushes and vendettas

Not saying the tyson stuff is untrue but a little consistency?

To be fair to Teddy, Tyson never really avenged a loss either. It does take a certain mental toughness to beat the person that knocked you out in an immediate rematch.

I can't believe I agree with you..lol...Joshua did the hit and not get hit. It worked. It should've work. It's what he was supposed to do after losing in such dramatic fashion. Why not use the "boxers footwork" and box around the shorter faster (and still deceptively dangerous) obese out of shape guy that previously crumpled you? "Footwork" is legitimately half of what boxing is all about (physically) anyway. Why not use it?

I understand what others are saying regarding "taking it to Ruiz," especially since Ruiz was out of shape, but there's more than one way to skin a cat - which means Joshua can choose another way to try and beat him if they ever fight again - Joshua can demand a trilogy if he wants to prove something to himself in more ways than one.....

An immediate rematch required a safer plan. Which was: "box" to get those belts back, at least for now.... Only Joshua knows what it felt like to get toppled like that - why risk getting toppled again using that same toe to toe style, Stylz make fights, and Joshua had to temporarily change his normal routine for a guaranteed win.....Again, why not just get those belts back home for now?

This is the most interesting observation:
"In his next fight with a new style, will it be a combination of his new and old style? That's interesting."
                  I agree
