  • Comments Thread For: Haye: After Witherspoon Fight, You Wouldn't Think Usyk Could Beat Fury, AJ

David Haye expected more from Oleksandr Usyk in his first fight at heavyweight after unifying the IBF, WBA, WBC and WBO cruiserweight titles. Usyk beat Chazz Witherspoon by technical knockout after the seventh round, when Witherspoon's trainer, Tommy Brooks, stopped their fight October 12 in Chicago. The 38-year-old Witherspoon was exhausted when their scheduled 12-round encounter ended, but he took that fight on only four days' notice because Usyk's original opponent, Tyrone Spong, failed a performance-enhancing drug test.

Surprisingly, Haye was a pretty good heavyweight - he carried the weight up well, with good power - good movement... Then came that cornball toe excuse which abruptly turned his signature trash talking into irritating gay noise.

Usyk has a good challenge in front of him to test the waters: a fit rugged dude who’s tussled with the best - who should be in shape. Thing is, Chisora’s lack of accuracy and inability to set his punches up - is what Usyk seems to take pride in doing very well.

I don’t know if Haye has informed his newfound boy (and business partner) on those weaknesses since they’re now working together. We shall see. I see Usyk doing the same thing Haye did to him in a more rangy clinical fashion....

Some people don’t want to see anyone else succeed where they failed. It’s confirmation that it wasn’t impossible, which stings.

        Let Haye express HIS opinion.
        Its his right.

Good to see Usyk going up against an acceptable HW in Chisora than that abomination of a "fight" against Chazz!!

Haye is right really and Witherspoon never had time to even get into shape. But you can't judge a man on one fight.

Chisora is perfect for us to judge how good Usyk is at the weight.

Usyk is taking so long to fight decent HWs. All that hype and then a damp squid so far.

I've seen light heavies fight for the heavy weight title, Billy Conn, Archie Moore, Bob Foster, but mostly it's how they got knocked out. At 33 Usyk isn't growing into a heavyweight. It's about training less and eating more to put on the weight. I'm not saying he can't suceed, but he didn't look good last out. I'm still waiting, I'll watch him like a hawk.

Witherspoon wasn't that good in his career, but he did his best to welcome Usyk to the HW's with that right hand he bounced off Usyk's head in the first round. I know a lot of people sat up in their chairs seeing that - Usyk wasn't hurt, but he reacted to it for sure.

Chisora is a good measuring stick, he has fought a lot of guys and mostly hung in there. And, he is one of the few HW's who will commit to going to the body all night...I want to see if Usyk can keep his legs after a HW body attack and to what extent he slows down... will Chisora be able to get to Usyk's body.

You talking about Haye? The guy who didn't fail moving up to heavy and winning a title and currently Chisora's manager, who is facing Usyk next, so the very last person you'd expect to be rooting for Usyk?
