The first Japanese fighter to be crowned champion under four world sanctioning bodies. Katsunari Takayama has indeed tried to be great, fought some of the best at the lighter-weights who eventually moved up in weight class ; whilst Takayama was always a career mini-weight.

Katsunari came up short in the Olympic trials, however his campaign was at flyweight ; a much more physically demanding weight for the aging veteran. No shame in losing considering the circumstances. Takayama went out as champion in the pros in capturing the WBO-miniweight title in 2016 vs. Riku Kano -- wouldn't it be great if Katsunari were to come back and win another world title? He paid his dues, let the man go out on his shield if he wishes.
