Comments Thread For: Maurice Hooker: I Would Win Every Round Against Josh Taylor

Maurice Hooker's handlers have had discussions about the former WBO junior welterweight champion opposing another onetime 140-pound champion next. If they can't come to an agreement for Hooker to fight Regis Prograis, however, Hooker gladly would challenge the unbeaten champion who topped Prograis in their title unification fight three months ago. Hooker predicted during an interview with BoxingScene.com that he would soundly defeat Josh Taylor if given the opportunity to face the Scottish southpaw.

Taylor did not win because he was the bigger man. He won because he adjusted and became more active in the fight. He showed chin and mental fortitude. If Hooker faces him it will be another Ramirez type of fight.

"Hooker seemingly has a better chance at facing Prograis than getting a shot at Taylor’s titles. Whereas Prograis and Hooker have open schedules, Taylor is expected to make a mandated defense of his IBF junior welterweight title in his next fight against Thailand’s Apinun Khongsong (16-0, 13 KOs)."

Make It Happen Already! DAMN! Shouldn't be that hard!

So a draw? Like when Perez won every round vs Hooker and it was still scored a draw because rocnation was blatantly rigging its cards?

I like Hooker and he is a skilled boxer but I don't think he'd be able to deal with the heat that Taylor would put on. My bet would be Hooker would get KO'd mid rounds.

Both Prograis and Taylor would beat Hooker up.

Like Hooker, he is a gutsy kid. And being self-confident is important. However Taylor is a special fighter. He would beat Hooker convincingly. Possibly by KO.

If Hooker vs. Prograis can't get done, how about someone showing "Browny" some love?

                January 24, 2020:

"Taylor will obviously be pursuing a full unification match with Jose Ramirez, with whom he now shares a promoter, but the IBF are sticklers about their mandatories. It just kinda stinks that Khongsong, whose record is empty outside of the Kondo win, gets first crack when Subriel Matias, a far more interesting opponent, won an eliminator last year.
