Comments Thread For: The 2010s in the Rankings: The Top Twenty of the Decade - #10-6

Using the ratings of the published issues of Ring Magazine, and the archived ratings of the Transnational Boxing Rankings Board (TBRB) since their debut in October 2012, and under the assumption they act as a reasonable gauge of the state of each of boxing's seventeen weight divisions over the last decade, a select group of fighters was evaluated with two questions in mind:

Inoue skipping over flyweight was criminal.

If he really wanted to prove greatness there was his chance.

Abner Mares 7. LMFAO. I think there's a 0 missing from that. Looking at who he beat, they were clearly massively overrated at the time. Two clear losses to LSC who would not be in anyones current P4P top 30 tells it's own story, as well as that hilarious KO loss to that stiff, plodding journeyman.

I'm not sure about this ranking system, seems a bit flawed.

Manny at #9. Yet his minions wanted him to be FOTD.

While the system Cliff uses isn’t perfect, I have long argued if you use the same criteria and apply it equally to all boxers, some of the more popular boxers on this forum will be ranked far below the boxers the forum hates the most.

So far, manny and loma’s ranking have illustrated this perfectly.

This applies to me as well because I wouldn’t have ranked kov this high.

Once again, the same posters who hate on Ring Magazine all year long, suddenly find credibility in their ranking system when fighters they either love or hate rank where they want them. At some point they will be back to hating and discrediting Ring again, and I can't wait to remind some of them over the course of the year how they praised Ring when it aligned with their biases.

With the system there ranked correctly with the way its setup but everyone here in this forum knows manny should be ranked higher than mares thats for sure. The losses are official if we like it or not but we know he won against Bradley an Horn, it sucks having to grade the opposition during that time since look at wards opposition compared to mannys no dam comparison but ward stayed undefeated officially while Manny lost a couple of times in the decade. Without this system manny an ward could be interchangeable but with it ward edges it out

So Manny was rated this low because his W against Margarito was unrated and his controversial Ls to Bradley and Horn were big minuses in their point system. Ok....

Anyway, my guess for the top 5 rankings are gonna be:

                  5. M.Garcia
                  4. Spence
                  3. GGG
                  2. Canelo
                  1. Mayweather

This article had Abner Mares over Pacquiao in the decade, it shows you how reliable their assessment is to a fighter. Clown fest.
