Comments Thread For: Frank Warren Confident Tyson Fury Made Right Decision in Trainer Switch

There are still many questions looming about, when it comes to Tyson Fury's recent decision to replace his head trainer, Ben Davison. Fury made that decision last month, which caught most of the boxing world off-guard when he confirmed a report initially posted by BoxingScene.com.

In most cases it seems generally regarded that boxers switching trainers is a bad idea. But I put that down to cases where it's guys hoping to fix flaws or find a magic touch to step up their level.
Win or lose in his next fight, I don't see that being the case here.
It strikes me as wise that, someone with a fully formed style and a good range of experience under their belt should have an eye on feeling fresh and newly invigorated in training, and the confidence to do what he feels is right for his internal drive. Especially when Fury does seem to have his sights set on wrapping up boxing in the not too distant future, having spent his life going through these motions.
It speaks that he knows himself throughly inside and out.

Time will tell I suppose, but it seems hasty to me. Maybe Fury’s being too quick to apportion blame on his trainer rather than perhaps concede that at the end of the day he’s the one responsible for his performances or to give any credit to Wallin for a stronger showing than anticipated. It wouldn’t be the first time he’s struggled against an underdog opponent- Cunningham and Pazkic come to mind. Davison wasn’t his trainer back then.

I’m not a huge Fury fan, but I’ve watched him from the start, his performance raises with the opponent.

Who ever keeps him fit and motivated is the right trainer, he strikes me as the type to get easily bored

Anytime you switch trainers it’s a sign of desperation

Bad bad move by Fury. But we are dealing with somebody who is flaky anyway. Steward might be the right choice for Fury but changing a trainer that you're used to this close to a big fight is just ******. Besides, Davison did his job and got Fury back up to where he was before and now he gets dumped for the big payday. I am now rooting for Wilder to knock him out, as I've never really liked Fury anyway, as bad of a fighter as Wilder is. I hope 2020 sees Usyk crowned as the undisputed heavyweight champion, as I do believe he is the only elite-level fighter in that division.

If fury knew what was best for him he would have never hired ben davison to begin with.

Switching trainers just months before a big fight doesn't seem like a good idea.
