Canelo's fight was worse because it was a planned cherry pick that nobody but Canelo was asking for. It was just a stunt to give Canelo a title in a weight class he had no intention of every fighting in. Canelo should have defended his middleweight titles. Canelo was just showing off and cherry picked a very weak champ when he could have fought one of the undefeated champs. Then he immediately vacated the title rather than unify. For a proven boxer on his high level I thought it was BS but it will win him fighter of the decade by those easily fooled and impressed. Jermall was just a good young boxer on the way up who wanted to win a title and Bundrage was a champion. He didn't cherry pick Bundrage when he had many other options. Canelo was a huge star who could take any fight he wanted unlike Jermall who had to grab his opportunity. If Canelo had gone to 175 to fight Bivol or Beterbiev that would have been impressive. Singling out only Kovalev was not.

Their situations were completely different. Canelo was the biggest star in boxing and could have any fight he wanted including much better fights than washed up Kovalev. In contrast Jermall was not yet a star and had no world title. When he was offered a shot at a world title he would have been crazy not to take it. Was Jermall supposed to turn down a shot at a world title because Bundrage was not good enough or too old???? I think not.

Some say Kovalev was winning, I had it neck to neck, maybe one round to Nelo, but after the 7th Kova turned it up like his last 3 fights, strong workout in the second half and clever boxing. Nobody takes a dive in such fashion. Canelo just younger. Those are the reasons why Inoue could stand the war with Donaire.
