Comments Thread For: Joshua: 'Punch From Gods' Doesn't Mean Ruiz Landed Lucky Punch

Anthony Joshua has endured considerable backlash for stating that Andy Ruiz Jr. landed "a punch from the gods" in the third round of their heavyweight title fight. The implication, critics contend, is that Ruiz merely hit him with a lucky shot after Joshua became the first opponent to put the durable Ruiz on the canvas. Ruiz quickly got to his feet after Joshua dropped him with a left hook at the 2:17 mark of the third round.

Gonna be interesting to see AJ's reaction the first time he's hit with something that bothers him on Sat

AJ should stop talking... Of course he has to do the interviews... but God, he's clearly still in his feelings and that's not good...

Ruiz is very good punching up. If you watch his punches they were high. If AJ did not learn to move his head he will be in trouble again.

            50/50 fight for me.

Doesn’t matter what he says, people would misinterpret it to suit their narratives. I never thought he meant Ruiz landed a lucky punch. But whatever makes some sleep at night

Who cares whether it was a lucky punch - it was an illegal punch. There's no doubt it was an illegal punch, but boxing now doesn't enforce any rules. You can clinch with and you can punch behind the back of the head without any warnings let alone points taken away. Not saying Ruiz wouldn't have still won, but he should have been warned and Joshua should have been given time to recover.

Of all the delusional AJ fans on this site, you take the cake with this one.

You're either talking about a different punch entirely or you're "special".

This is not illegal, and this is the punch that ruined AJ. Excuses Excuses.

if ruiz can withstand aj's best hard and accurate shots and fire back fast combinations then he should win.
