  • Comments Thread For: Gervonta Davis: Always Wanted To Fight In Atlanta, My Second Home

After bringing his hometown its first homegrown title fight in nearly 80 years, Gervonta Davis is ready to share the same kind of live to his home away from home. The unbeaten two-time 130-pound titlist bids to become a two-division titlist as he faces Yuriorkis Gamboa for a vacant 135-pound title. Their bout will take place Dec. 28 at State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia. The Showtime-televised event marks the first time in the 21st century where Atlanta will host a major title fight, with one of the sport's rising stars once again bringing big time boxing to locations longing for play host.

Gamboa not the same fighter today he was in (undefeated) 2014 when the current P4P #1 WBO Champ/undefeated T Crawford TKO'd him...Davis getting another gift...

No prob. Wlad was years past it when Joshua knocked him out in a highly entertaining fight that Joshua got a lot of credit for. So if tank beats Gamboa it’s another case of old lion falling to young lion. Same way floyd Patterson, Cleveland Williams, Archie Moore gave way to ali.....same way ezzard charles and Joe Walcott gave way to Marciano.....same way Julian jackson gave way to McClellan....same way Chavez gave way to dlh and on and on through boxing history

        I wouldn't call this a gift fight

Gamboa isn't easy for anyone and will come to win and it's up to Tank to make him feel old as he is and show that he is a star in the making, this is no give me type of fight. Tank is explosive and talented, I don't care who's in with him in whatever time period either!

And well done to PBC and Showtime for staging a fight in Atlanta....the cultural and historical implications of this fight card are not lost on me. Well done. Now do the same on Juneteenth in Houston, New Orleans, Atlanta, or Birmingham and you will have created a long overdue tradition

Glad Yuriorkis is getting the work and the paycheck. Hope he gives a good account of himself.

Doesn't surprise me Atlanta is almost as shi**y as Baltimore.
