  • Comments Thread For: McGuigan: Wilder Stops Ortiz - But He Might Get Rocked Again

Former world champion Barry McGuigan is backing Deontay Wilder to secure a knockout victory in Saturday's rematch with Luis Ortiz at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. In March 2018, at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, Wilder retained the WBC heavyweight title with a tenth round stoppage of Ortiz.

I can't tell if Ortiz is in the best shape of his life or if he is severely overtrained. He's looking extremely trim but I can't tell if that's gonna work in his favor or hurt him.

I think they're aiming to make him quicker and up his conditioning. We know Ortiz is old and carrying all that weight around had him gassing fairly early in the 1st fight. I just hope they're not sacrificing power and strength in exchange.

Ortiz hands down is a better boxer but Wilders power is the equalizer and he only needs to land once in 12 rounds to end the night. Hard to see Ortiz managing to avoid those shots for a whole 12 & at this trimmer weight, one has to think his punch resistance will not be the same

I no longer think that Ortiz is a fat hasbeen. He is quite fit.

I dont know why we still have McGuigan rolled out as an expert before a big fight. On both ITV and Sky for years he was nearly always wrong in picking results, and then went into the most annoying fence sitting. Hes expert opinion here? A fight similar to the first fight. That took some coming up with.

          Wilder is an easy pick.

A younger Ortiz might have really given him fits.

I like how seriously Ortiz is taking this. He wants it, and believes he has a chance. But too often this degree of training is a sign that a fighter is past his best. We see it in MMA a lot. Guys get super ripped, drop down another weight class, talk about being the most focused they have ever been...
