Emanuel Navarrete will spend the last day of his first year as a 122-pound title the same as it when it all began-in the ring with a major title at stake. The 24-year junior featherweight will return to the ring on Dec. 7, as he attempts the fourth defense of his title versus countryman Francisco Panchito' Horta. The bout-which will stream live on ESPN+ from the 10,000-seat Auditorio GNP Seguros in Puebla, Mexico-will mark his fifth ring appearance in exactly 52 weeks, beginning with title winning effort over Isaac Dogboe last December.

I was high on this guy big time when he dispatched that racist Dogboe family but since then and now he has been on a feast of unknowns. Huge disappointment.

Navarrete taking on another soft opponent is not a good look since he already did that twice with Elorde and De Vaca. Whatever happened to wanting to unify. Was Rey Vargas not available?

Pretty hard to get Arum to match his best fighters against quality opponents.

Top Rank didn't make this fight, Zanfer did. Navarette beat a top contender and an unbeaten prospect this year which is more than I can say about Santa Cruz, Russell, Davis, Farmer, Danny Garcia, Jermall Charlo, Saunders, and Usyk.
