Comments Thread For: Canelo Expects 'Big Difference' Between His Weight, Kovalev's

LAS VEGAS Canelo Alvarez will be heavier inside a boxing ring Saturday night than he was during any of his first 55 professional fights. The three-division champion expects to weigh no more than 180 pounds, though, when he steps into the ring for his 175-pound title fight against Sergey Kovalev at MGM Grand Garden Arena. Alvarez anticipates a "big difference" between what he'll weigh and what Kovalev will weigh once the opening bell sounds.

the only real problem that I could see for Canelo was his earlier comments about weighing in at 175

    that seemed ridiculous

that was obvious fodder for the opposition

it’s important to Alvarez to avoid adding too much weight before his first fight at the light heavyweight limit.

I think there’s gonna be a big difference,” Alvarez told a group of reporters before a press conference Wednesday at MGM Grand. “I’m not planning on going up a lot. I feel good at the weight that I’m at, and I wanna go in the ring really strong, fast and ready for anything. Weight is not gonna give me my strength.

he obviously needs to win that fight as the smaller man

Step on the scales the day after to end that debate then. Same shhh with Floyd and the second day weights..what’s so taxing about stepping on a scale like other fighters do?

Everyone's saying Kovalev can't take it to the body (true) and Canelo will stop him with body shots (lol). If a washed lil g can go 24 rounds with Canelo and never be hurt once, don't see how dafuq a PED-free Canelo is stopping the much bigger Kovalev.

Taking body shots from a prime Ward is whole 'nother level than taking body shots from midget Canelo who started his career as a jr. welterweight.

It's not required. If some fighters refuse to do it, what's the problem?

Canelo in the 1st fight with GGG was bulked up and bigger then I had him losing on my card. 2nd slim and trim for the first 7 rounds I thought was gonna stop GGG but GGG came back but still lost and Canelo convincingly won. Unless your a GGGtard and SUK some GGGood Dic!

Canelo used to always do same day weight until the sht got out of hand. But then again some ppl think Canelo can drop and rehydrate 30+lbs within 24 hours??? Are you one of them?

Didn’t say it’s required or a problem but don’t see what the big issue is with doing it. He already steps on the scales for Reynoso and son. Very few fighters don’t disclose their fight night weight, it just seems like a simple way of ending the debate regarding how much he balloons between weigh in and fight night.

I don’t do all that much speculation fam..he can put on a hundred pounds if he likes overnight. Just tired of the weight debate when it’s an easy resolution. Can a fighter out on 15 to 20 pounds overnight? Yes, rather easily we’ve seen it done plenty. Since we are in the subject it wouldn’t surprise me he and Kovalev being within a fist full of pounds apart come fight night.
