Comments Thread For: Canelo: Fighting Kovalev A Huge Risk, But We're Ready!

Canelo Alvarez feels fresh and strong as he winds down training camp for his light heavyweight debut November 2. His size disadvantage aside, Alvarez believes he is completely prepared to beat Sergey Kovalev in their 12-round, 175-pound title fight in Las Vegas. Russia's Kovalev has fought within the light heavyweight division his entire career, but Alvarez isn't the least bit worried about moving up two weight classes to box the WBO champion in a main event DAZN will stream from MGM Grand Garden Arena.

LOL @ gingerballs. Huge risk. 1 months rest on a half shot fighter with the judges in your pocket. Where's the risk.

Risk - Lol!! 4-1 favorite against a past it Kov who has been stopped twice in last 4 and seriously hurt in his last by a green inexperienced fighter!! Daring to b great would be taking on the best LHW - Beterbiev!

Joke of a fight. Cash grab for kov, and another duck against the top MW’s and SMW. Canelo looking for a challenge, why not Benevidez, Ramirez, or one of the Dirrell brothers? Kov is spent and a quitter.

It’s clear that Canelo just fights noteworthy names till their past their prime and have aged. This guy will never go down as a legend. Great fighter but nowhere near legendary. This fight has fixed written all over it

Pointing out the obvious is not hating. Kovalev has not looked good lately. Kovalev is on the wrong side of 30. Kovalev appears to be vulnerable to body punches. Kovalev was a couple of punches away from losing to Yarde a fighter that either doesn't spar or barely spars. Canelo gets favorable scoring from the judges.

Of course it's a risk, he's fighting a man who is naturally 2 divisions bigger than he is if not slightly more - remember Canelo didn't start at 160 whereas Kovalev has always fought at 175.
However if this was truly about daring to be great and fighting against the odds, then Canelo would have made the offer to Beterbiev instead. He sees Kovalev as his best chance of winning a world title at 175 and while it's infinitely more respectable than cherry-picking Fielding at 168, let's not pretend this is the same Krusher that obliterated Cleverley for his first title.
