Comments Thread For: Anthony Joshua's Coach Not Surprised at Post-Fight Finger Pointing

Robert McCracken says he wasn't surprised when people started pointing fingers at him after Anthony Joshua lost his world heavyweight title in June. As Joshua's head trainer, McCracken knows he is not above criticism, neither is his naive to know that when Joshua was beaten by Andy Ruiz Jr in New York, some were going to sniff an opportunity.

The tone of Rob here is avoidant as if that somehow places him beyond blame. Like, a coach can't elevate a good fighter to a great fighter? What the fuuuck is he talking about

Good to hear Rob talk about this and talk some sense.

All of the great fighters, whilst I’m sure they have good coaches, have been able to make adjustments when under pressure in the ring. Calzaghe, Ward, Floyd (you could include Fury) for example - when challenged they’ve always been able to solve the problem during a fight, not always what they’ve planned on or trained for. That’s what seems to take fighters to another level.

Sounds like he’s throwing someone under the bus either way the whole team is in denial Joshua looked fine in rounds 3 and 4 he just can’t take a good punch plain and simple and he’s going to get knocked out again

McCracken being allowed to be GB director of coaching whilst also coaching professionals and allied to Matchroom is surely a conflict of interests; somewhere else it'd be called "grooming" . . .

I pointed out in 2016 this kid's open to being KO'd due to his poor posture in an exchange....I'm just some *******. McCracken deserves the flack, he should be fired. He sent his kid out there with obvious flaws time and time again. Just because Povetkin can't punch while being punched doesn't mean kid's not open for it. He was, his entire career, and as champion with multiple defenses they still worked on **** like let's develop that body work rather than fix a flaw that could get you KO'd rather quickly.

I am a Marciano and Wilder fan, you simply do not get more power exalting while being unconcerned with defense. Defense is ****ing important. Better to have D than a 4 punch combo waiting. Andy proved this with his superior posture, position, and powerline. Just being able to move and put your guard up is some basic as **** D. Having poor posture will always have you vulnerable in exchanges, it's why punchers posture so damn much, they know they're probably going to get hit, but, their posture allows them to take minimal damage while delivering a harder punch in return. Basic as **** **** the stopped and totally demoralized the unified HW champion. It's a damn disgrace.

              I think Rob's riding Anthony's coattails.

Totally agree, there can't be much excuse for having such holes in his game. Good point about posturing. Anyway, we'll soon find out what the score is come the rematch. And for all the criticism, AJ's had an amazing (if somewhat well-promoted) career so far let's be fair. Hopefully the rematch is conclusive and we can move on to more interesting fights

How do you have a team consisting of over 40 people and have that many flaws???

                    I’m dead serious....

Either AJ team is pure garbage or they are a group of yes men just there to collect a paycheck.

                    Ruiz by knockout again
