Comments Thread For: Trainer: Gvozdyk Only Champ That Would Fight Beterbiev

PHILADELPHIA Artur Beterbiev accepted as soon as he was offered a fight against Oleksandr Gvozdyk. According to Marc Ramsay, Beterbiev's trainer, Gvozdyk was the only one of boxing's three other recognized light heavyweight champions willing to fight his rugged Russian knockout artist. Whatever happens in their 175-pound title unification fight Friday night, Ramsay and Beterbiev appreciate Gvozdyk's readiness to put his title on the line against a powerful opponent who has won each his 14 pro bouts by knockout.

I think Bivol would fight either guy now, and Kovalev would as well, if he doesn't retire after the Canelo fight.

I have no idea how this plays out.

Im leaning toward Gvozdyk split decision because Beterbiev has been more inactive and has fought slightly more cans

              People it’s Beterbiev Time
Now that all his managerial problems are solved , he just needs to fight
              He knows this is it
And I can tell you that Beterbiev is always in shape between fights
That is one reason why I don’t worry , the other being he was an outstanding amateur fighter

Respect to Beterbiev - he could have opted to simply hold on to his belt and eke out a living taking the lowest risk fights until he lands a big payday or is retired.
Instead, he's chosen to roll the dice.

I'm curious as to the details of why Bivol rejected the offer (if that is true). He has always spoken about wanting to fight the best and unify - but he's last fight against a lowly ranked no name didn't exactly back up his claims.

Whether he was already contractually obligated to fight Castillo when he received the offer, or whether he turned it down, or he may have figured out that it would be smarter for him to let two other guys slug it out and then swoop in and try to pick up two belts... I'll never know.

The proof will be in the choice of Bivol's next fights.
