Three division world champion Abner Mares has revealed that he recently received the green light to return to the ring and hopes to do so in the first quarter of 2020. Without the need to put a name on the table, he is simply waiting for Al Haymon to decide what is best for his career. Mares was going to fight against Gervonta Davis on February 9, but days before the battle he had an eye injury, a retinal detachment, and had to undergo medical treatment to recover, without the certainty of whether or not he would be capable of returning to the ring.

I just don't get it. When Mares was with Golden Boy he was set to be the next big thing. Then he leaves and he goes no where. His career goes down the drian.

And that's not a knock on Haymon. Haymon gave Mares all the tools he needed to continue that path. I just can't figure out what happened.

Hopefully he stays retired. His career is getting sad.
