Comments Thread For: Slippage Effect: Golovkin's Battle to Show He's Still Among the Best

By Mitch Abramson - The signs are pretty obvious. There's the heavy feet. The diminished reflexes. The lack of speed. Boxing doesn't do subtlety very well, so when a fighter is past their physical prime and on the decline, it's about as glaring as a hot sunny day. Especially if that boxer was once a knockout artist who mechanically destroyed his opponents...

Dude was a bit more mobile pre-Sanchez I think, but he's always planted his feet to generate his power... it's exploitable, as has been shown but I ain't sure it'll be too much a problem against Derevyanchenko here. Sergiys biggest problem's gonna be getting through or round the jab I think... he hasn't got Canelo's upper body movement or handspeed advantage. I'm guessing he's gonna make a good fight of it, but except for age all the physical advantages are with Golovkin.

If he’s slowing down as they claim, then Canelo is equally slowing down or the hate on G continues. I’m going with the latter.

That!! Exactly. He can't be so slow on his feet because many commentators were saying a few years ago he was the best boxer, bar none, at cutting off the ring.

Of course he has slowed down. There is not an athlete in the world who is performing better at 37 than 30, 25 or 22 years old. Unless on peds or they just recently started getting serious the latter not being the case for pro boxers

I predict he'll get even faster. 3G might start doing the Ali shuffle and could even put the old shoe-shine on Derev... NOT.
GGG is slowass now. Never was the fastest of hands and basically the dude's on the slide and will probably lose tonight.

Both are killers in the ring this fight is going to be excellent! This is a potential slug-fest like Porter vs Spence.
