Canelo was able to withstand some hellacious shots from GGG and GGG arguably packs a bigger punch than Kovalev. Rumor has it GGG beat up Kovalev in sparring a number of years ago

I dont think that matters so much, Canelo doesnt want to get hit solid by Kov, he will hit hard for the first half.

Its a speed game and Canelo will be very quick for Kov.

I wonder if we see Canelo using Iron Mike/Dempsey/Ippo style aggressive shoulder rolls, or if he'll get on his bike?

He won't out-jab Krusher so he's got to get in there and work that body. I'm really digging this fight. Canelo will be coming to win and Krusher sure as hell won't want an L against a middleweight. #LetsDoThis

Kov has very good footwork a lot better than GGG's footwork. And as we all know Canelo has slow feet. Usually a smaller fighter can move up in weight and use his hand and foot speed plus superior stamina to cruise to a decision against the slower, bigger man. However, in Canelo's case he does not have superior foot speed and his stamina is almost as bad as Kovalev's.

So the questions are how does Canelo beat the bigger man minus better stamina and quicker footwork?

Canelo is a great body puncher, but that was at 154 and 160lbs. I recall De La Hoya was a excellent body puncher and when he moved up and fought a much bigger man named Sturm he threw the kitchen sink at Sturm going to the body. Sturm just walked through the smaller man's body punching fire power.

Yes, Canelo is a great body puncher, but will he have the power to make his body punches hurt Kovalev?

Canelo has an elusiveness few cats have that will help him exploit Kovalev I feel. Canelo can be right in front of you & make you miss/never allow you to hit him clean.

The stamina thing is a non-issue to me. I think Canelo better manages his stamina & seems to have a solid enough understanding of where he is in the round to know when he can lay low a lil bit & catch a breather.

With that elusiveness Kovalev has never dealt with in a pro fight I think its a good bet he'll either be too picky/careful in being countered with throwing punches & get outworked or he'll throw, but because he'll be missing more than normal will gas a lil quicker than normal which could make him a sitting duck in the mid rounds to be stopped or need to show some toughness to stick around &/or the weight will just be too much for Canelo & he'll be unable to stop Kovalev, but still take the decision with his superior ring IQ & strategy.
