Comments Thread For: Peter Fury Wants Hughie Back in November, Talks Povetkin Bout

PETER Fury is eyeing a rematch against Alexander Povetkin for his son Hughie (23-3, 13 KOs) after the pair fought last month. Their August 31 encounter in London ended with the 40-year-old Russian going home with his 35th win under his belt after a unanimous decision victory over the 24-year-old Brit.

Who in their right mind would want to see a Povetkin/Hughie rematch?? Povetkin won't want it. No one wants to see it. Yeah right, sure that will happen.

        Put him in with Takam.

If Baby Hughie loses, throw him out with the bath water cos he'll have no value to anyone except to his dad as a son.

        So sad...

I've had the misfortune of watching Hughie fight live twice. Peeeeeyeeeewwww... His shitty-ass style sucks all the energy out of the building. Has he ever thrown a proper straight right in his life?!

He’s right. He’s losing for what he’s not doing. Because it looks like he can’t do it. He’s domestic level. In today’s HW division that gets you a reasonable ranking and more opportunities

At least Peter is open about Hughies shortfalls. Think everyone agrees his fights are boring to watch. I watched the Povetkin fight and was screaming at the TV for him to throw more leather. Imagine if he let his hands go more against povetkin and Parker. It's likely he could have won both those fights
Problem is I dont think he has a fighters mentality, he needs to find something in himself to bring out a bit of spite and aggression. At the moment he is not fighting to his full potential.

I'm not sure if Hughie has it in him. He's got decent ability and movement but he's not ruthless enough in there.

He shouldn't be letting Povetkin at 40 outwork him. He's the younger, fresher guy so what he lacked in experience and skill should have been bridged somewhat by his youth and workrate.

Style wise, Hughie's a smaller more cautious version of his cousin Tyson. The lad need to let his hands go a bit more and learn that there are times when it's OK to hit the **** it button.
No point in going too low in standard for his next opponent; keep it within the divisions top 50 then target another of the ranked contenders again in 2 or 3 fights. Maybe look at Wallin, Breazeale, Washington, Chisora, even old man Ortiz when he's ready; I doubt Parker, Pulev or Povetkin will rematch him; who want's a hard night's work chasing around someone they've already beaten?
