  • Comments Thread For: Munguia: I Would Love The Chance To Fight Canelo One Day

It was only a few weeks ago when Jaime Munguia was prepared to share a Mexican Independence Day-themed card with Saul Canelo' Alvarez. Now with the date all to himself, the unbeaten super welterweight titlist from Tijuana, Mexico looks forward to one day sharing the ring with his countryman. Munguia (33-0, 26KOs) remains hard at work for a Sept. 14 title defense versus Ghana's Patrick Allotey, with their bout topping a DAZN-streamed event at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, Calif. The opportunity came about when Golden Boy was forced to shift plans after Guadalajara's Alvarez (52-1-2, 35KOs) failed to secure an opponent in time for a targeted headliner on the weekend he's performed for each of the past three years.

Not sure when this will happen. Canelo might have another 3 to 5 years before he is on the decline. I had some thoughts that this fight would happen sooner but Munguia has a lot to work on before he can step in the ring against Canelo.

Munguia will have a short career. I’m not even sure he’ll make it to canelo undefeated.

Canelo would literally beat the s hit out of Munguia. Sure he’s still young but he doesnt look like he’s going to turn out as good as Canelo or anywhere near. The worst Canelo we can think of right now beats the beat Munguia we can think of...badly. Bad bad

Please God no. No. No. No. Feeling Golden Boy was grooming Munguia for a Mexican Independence Day beatdown at the hands of Canelo, but shame on anyone who wants to see this murder.

            Jake, super-welter, not super-middle.

Munguia is similar to Kirkland but with less skills and dumber.

Maybe Muguia could fight Fury or Wilder, they both made a career out of beating up r-e-t-a-r-d-s and old men.

Munguia is next for Canelo after Kovalev.
