Maidana made enough money in three ****ing fights to literally say "**** this, I'm going home" with enough money to secure the rest of his life and likely his son's life, to live how he wants, under no obligation to anyone.
Haymon's model is simple; fight for your money, keep the money you're earning on the way up (Haymon takes no money early, as do most trainer/coaches, tbh), and then split the money the way it's supposed to be split when you're finally earning enough to split something up (according to what's been put out, that level is $250k per fight, of which Haymon's piece is under $40k; fed/state/local taxes, trainer fee, Haymon's piece, camp expenses, etc likely turns that $250k to $100k pretty quick, but said fighter still put $100k into their bank account).
You can't have it both ways.
