Comments Thread For: Takam: I'm Still More Than Ready To Welcome Usyk To Division!

Carlos Takam still very much wishes to remain in the hunt to face Oleksandr Usyk. All he asks for is a fair shake at making the fight happen. The veteran heavyweight contender was previously scheduled to land the assignment, only for their planned May 25 clash to get scrapped after Usyk suffered a torn biceps which delayed plans for his heavyweight debut. Now healed and ready to fight, the 2012 Olympic Gold medalist for Ukraine and former World cruiserweight king is penciled in for an Oct. 12 DAZN-streamed headliner at Wintrust Arena on DePaul University campus in Chicago, Ill.

The best debut opponent for Usyk at HW would be someone like Gerald Washington but not small HWs like Takam or Fedosov. Usyk will fight giants like Joshua,Fury and Wilder in his next fights but not short former title contenders.

Takam is an odd choice for his heavyweight debut...he faced bigger cruiserweights (Hunter) and stronger cruiserweights (Gassiev)

He doesn't make sense at all when Usyk has to fights giants after that.

Ruiz is not a giant, and he is a champ.
