Comments Thread For: Thurman: I'll Be Back At The Top Of Sport; Not Going Nowhere

LAS VEGAS Keith Thurman might've suffered his first professional loss Saturday night, but the former WBA welterweight champion is certain he provided proof of just how much more elite-level boxing he has left in him. A determined Thurman turned in an admirable, courageous showing in losing a split decision to Manny Pacquiao at MGM Grand Garden Arena. The 30-year-old Thurman overcame a first-round knockdown, a right hand that badly bloodied his nose in the fifth round and a left to his body during the middle of the 10th round that tested his resolve.

This would've been Deontay Wilder against a 41-yr old Wlad or Povetkin but he ducked the fights, lol.

Just fight Porter and Mikey. Or go fight Khan in Saudi Arabia.

Hey kudos to Keith for not being that dolt fighter who takes an L but swears he felt he won the fight. Can't stand when a fighter does that BS every single time they lose.

Keith, the injuries & lay-off done you in. Even a 40yr old exposed you. Take the retirement pay that you just made & call it. You’ll not make that kind of money for even harder fights. Enjoy married life while you have a brain

I'll take the under on Keith being numero uno again. Hell I think pre-the L he'd likely had had his best moment in boxing.

Thurman is done as an elite fighter. He's a gatekeeper now.

                  I don't think he'll get a rematch - at Manny's age, there's only one rematch HE wants.
Thurman's probably at the point where he needs to adjust his style to stay at the top. I don't think he'll ever be the same fighter he was before the injuries and inaction, but he's talented enough and intelligent enough to know what no longer works and what's feasible to change. Plenty of other top fighters successfully change their style to cope with advancing age, old injuries, etc.
