Comments Thread For: High School Student Mielnicki Scores 1st-Round KO In Pro Debut

NEWARK, N.J. Vito Mielnicki Jr. made a spectacular professional boxing debut Saturday night. The strongly supported, 17-year-old high school student knocked Tamarcus Smith unconscious barely a minute into their four-round welterweight fight. The highlight-reel knockout left Smith face-first on the canvas and sent a crowd full of Mielnicki's supporters into a frenzy at Prudential Center.

¿Whats the big deal? So he KO'd a guy that was coming from a 1st round KO in his previous fight against another fighter making a debut..Plus at his his age(17) Wilfredo Benitez won his first world title & Pipino Cuevas was already ranked among the top 10..So I don't see nothing impressing about this kid.

That was a far different time and you obviously didn’t see this fight if you “don’t see nothing impressing about this kid.” At 17 I was in Parris Island in the middle of a 13 week Marine Corps boot camp, turning 18 2 weeks prior to graduation. This young kid was fighting an adult in a very dangerous sport at the age of 17. What did you do that was so impressive at 17 that would eclipse either or could make the comment you did?
