  • Comments Thread For: The Worst Summer Ever Ten Years Later

By Thomas Gerbasi - It was the worst summer ever. Boxing fans are used to disappointments. SuperFights that turn into SuperDuds. SuperFights that never materialize. Mismatches parading as SuperFights. You get the idea. But these disappointments pass. There's always another fight that lives up to expectations. Another pair of fighters who are willing to step up and face each other, and pr...

Worst boxing forum ever in 10 years can't even report on the Ruiz vs Joshua rematch taking place in New York. Just sickening

Good stuff, Thomas. Your insight into the great Arguello was priceless. I had to laugh out loud at the Duran outburst. Knowing how volatile the Panamanian was at the time one can clearly visualize the uncomfortable public spectacle with the ultra reserved Arguello.

I salute you Thomas Gerbasi, your care for this sport is steamed into the pores of this historical article. Its aroma clears the nasal cavities and allows boxing to remember when breathing it in was nothing but good for what ails us.

You are a throwback reporter that sees valor in all that step in the ring. In this age of reporters spinning for exclusives, pride-less fans protecting their fighters and prize fighters comforted by such actions, you remind us of boxing’s roots. When we loved to just watch the sport.

These new age swindlers and cowards should sit down with you and find just 10% of the integrity that you and these three great fighters exhibited.

Maybe I missed my era because reading this article just made me believe even more that what is happening today is flimsy compared to its foundation.

Reporters have legacy too. The voice of your article let’s us all know yours has been fulfilled. What a privilege sir.

Great article. Gatti truly felt like a family member as often as I watched his fights and replays of his fights. And Arguello was in my home twenty times a Sunday on his Bud Lite commercials. The reminders of how special they were are appreciated.

No way in hell Gatti or Arguello committed suicide.

                Those men were murdered.

Vernon Forrest's death really hurt my heart.

That dude tried to do good in his community and they got him.

The best article I've read on Boxingscene in a long time, thank you.

Fabulous read! Thank you. For all the snakes in the sport that make my eyes roll, these three in the article compensate for the dark characters. For real, Arguello, what a boxer! what a man!
