Comments Thread For: Kovalev-Yarde Postponed From June 29 Until August Date TBD

The light heavyweight title bout between Sergey Kovalev and Anthony Yarde will not take place June 29. Multiple sources informed BoxingScene.com on Thursday that the Russian investors providing funding to bring Kovalev-Yarde to Kovalev's home country would prefer to stage the fight sometime in August. They still want to bring the bout to the 8,000-seat arena in Kovalev's hometown of Chelyabinsk, Russia.

I think we all called this one. 0% chance of this fight happening. Look for Yarde to fight some obscure South American tune up next.

When has Kovalev ever been unwilling to travel to someone's home country to fight them? He probably just prefers a homecoming fight if it can still be worked out, and/or it's about money. Unless you have it straight from Kovalev's team that he does NOT want to fight in the UK, as opposed to him WANTING to fight at home, editorializing in that way is unfair to Kovalev and potentially misleading to readers.

Yarde and Kovalev both signed the contract, the issue just now is regarding the investors putting up money for the fight to take place in Russia

Agreed! kovalev has fought on the road for the majority of his career he's the exact definition of a road warrior. He's won all his titles on the road in his opponents home country!

An August fight makes no sense. He starts trial August 1st.

He did as much during the arraignment hearing this past April, with the light heavyweight titlist due to stand trial on August 1 in San Bernardino County (Calif.) Superior Court. It is hoped that he is able to get through his in-ring fight before advancing to his legal battle, or so hopes his opponent in waiting.
And it's supposed to take place in Russia???
