Comments Thread For: Joshua: How Would They Deal With Me If I Fought Povetkin Next?

NEW YORK Anthony Joshua seemed surprised Thursday that Deontay Wilder hasn't drawn more criticism for announcing Tuesday night that his next fight will be a rematch with Luis Ortiz. Joshua had hoped to revisit negotiations for a long-discussed heavyweight showdown with Wilder after his fight against Andy Ruiz Jr. on Saturday night at Madison Square Garden. The British superstar wondered aloud before a press conference Thursday at The Beacon Theater what fan reaction would've been if he had disclosed this week that he's planning to face Alexander Povetkin again in his next fight.

That's a good point from Joshua. Wilder is cheating boxing fans and they don't like it.

Exactly I see people in here talking about yes this will be a good fight lol. Yes the 1st fight was good but its timing is way off and unnecessary Ortiz was knocked out for crying out loud.

      Wilder clearly ducked Anthony Joshua.

Dumb comparison. The Wilder/Ortiz was an exciting fight. Ortiz had Wilder hurt until the KO. A better comparison would be Whyte, who you were going to fight next. That was an exciting fight and he had you hurt until the KO.

Would be more like fighting Whyte again.

Povetkin was the guy that kept us from seeing Joshua vs Wilder last fall. Remember the fake 24 hr warning and team Joshua pulling out of the Wilder negotiations? They signed the fight a week later, not 24 hrs. It's all in print, verified fact and not worth re-hashing.

They will fight eventually. If Joshua really wanted a challenge, he would have given Ortiz a few more weeks to prepare. We all have found out that Hearn's BS about venues can be adjusted when big money is at stake. Ortiz was in Hearn's stable for 3 fights, promising him Joshua, but in reality did it to keep Ortiz away apparently.

Now we have Hearn hyping a crap fight, and crying about who Wilder is fighting. Boo Hoo.

Yes, exactly! Whyte beat Joshua like a deranged parent in the amateurs and had him stunned in the pro’s while he was nursing a bad shoulder (I think it was his shoulder). Whyte has done a great job of defeating every other opponent thereafter! Whyte has all but sacrificed his shoulder to the greedy promoter god to get that elusive rematch. But still he’s ignored by the robot who supposedly runs the show - as Eddie claims! “Dumb comparison” indeed!

No one wants to see Wilder fight the old age pensioner Ortiz. The guy is on heart meds for goodness sake and he looks real old and flabby nowadays. Hopefully there aren't any idiots out there willing to pay to see this garbage.

And Povetkin is younger than Ortiz. Whyte would be a better rematch as Whyte has actually improve since he lost to Joshua unlike Ortiz who has declined

You know I don’t mind Joshua but I am starting to understand why Hearn speaks instead of him.....he can really stick his foot in his mouth since he and Hearn were offering Dillian Whyte a rematch. Also, I suspect of povetkin had been ahead on points going into the championship rounds in a thrilling fight in which both men were knocked down and or hurt badly and povetkin had one 2-3 fights straight since, it would be a viable rematch. Ultimately wilder and haymon have really upstaged Joshua and Hearn since the media seems more interested in this topic than Ruiz
