Comments Thread For: Musings: Jacobs Drops The Ball; Canelo Builds His Case For Hall

By Lyle Fitzsimmons - It was a thought-provoking Saturday. So naturally, as the main event of the Cinco de Mayo eve card unfolded in the Nevada desert, I was host to a typical wave of fight-night reactions, impressions and takeaways. Among them Daniel Jacobs laid a gigantic egg when it came to backing up uncharacter...

Talking trash is part of boxing promotions! Bad talks are usually done by B side fighter or both for public's interest. Big talkers like Jacobs Khan Broner Malignaggi were big losers too but earned big pay days with their mouth and not abilities!

This was Jacobs chance of becoming that crossover star ( at least in the minds of casual fans ) and gaining a bunch of fans on the way
He just needed to perform the same way he did against GGG , instead laid a big fughin dump
That je ne sait pas intrigue about Jacobs is gone to my eyes
It will take much to get back up that ladder

The problem is he fought similar to his fight with GGG. No sense of willing to try and break the will of Alvarez just like he did with GGG. He seems to be looking for very gracious judging during his fights.

"I picked Jacobs going in and was looking for reasons to lean close rounds in his direction"

This is the problem with today's boxing press. They choose a favorite and look for reasons beyond what is actually happening during the fight to give their fav rds.. I am looking at you GGG press fan boys.

He fought a bit like that against Dervy too, there is something mentally wrong with Jacobs, he could have pushed GGG, dervy and canelo a lot more than he did.

I also get that feeling from Jacobs ; like the judges owe him something
Not a good way to go into a fight

That was as good as Jacobs gets. Boxing is tough.

He fought GGG way better than he fought Canelo.

He outlanded GGG in powerpunches in 8 rounds to 4, and outlanded him in power punches overall as well.

Triple Jab of course outlanded Jacobs in jabs and that was enough to get him the win, even without the KD it would've been an SD loss for Jacobs at best.

Versus Canelo, Jacobs didn't outland him in any department. Not even jabs, and Canelo isn't much of a jabber at all. Canelo outlanded Jacobs in jabs in 8 rounds to 4, which is rare since Canelo's main focus is always landing power punches.
