Comments Thread For: Russell: I Doubt Santa Cruz, Promoters, Even Haymon Want Me

Gary Russell Jr. has what he considers a "great working relationship" with Al Haymon. Russell told BoxingScene.com over the weekend that Haymon has delivered on every promise he has ever made to the WBC featherweight champion. But Russell is beginning to think that even Haymon, who runs Premier Boxing Champions, doesn't want him to fight Leo Santa Cruz.

I like Gary, he is highly skilled and entertaining, but he only fights once per year. It's hard to get excited about a guy who isn't even a blip on the radar. He is squandering his prime.

It's Santa Cruz vs Rigondeaux situation all over again. https://www.boxingscene.com/santa-cr...ux-bout--87367

Leo said Al even told him that no fans would be happy to see Santa Cruz vs Rigo back then as a way to convince Leo not to do the fight or something, which of course was a lie.

Is Al lying to his fighters as a way to steer them away from the best fights for the most money and towards what benefits him instead?

Marcus Browne also claims he was told that Beterbiev didn't even want to fight him and that's why he didn't fight Beterbiev for the belt, but this article paints a different picture. http...www.... ************ .... com/2018/03/beterbiev-ordered-by-ibf-to-defend-against-marcus-browne/

Did Al lie to Browne as a way to steer him away from fighting Beterbiev back in Beterbiev's prime? It would have been a career high payday for Browne, but it would not have saved a chess piece for Al to use on his PBC board instead...

Gvozdyk vs Browne was also ordered a year and a half ago or so, and Browne also refused to fight that fight. Did Browne make that decision, was he even made aware that he had that option, or did Al turn that down behind his back and then lie to him the way it looks like he lied to Santa Cruz, and possibly also to Browne himself about Beterbiev?

Finally a black fighter who's keeping it real and speaks facts!
I'm a huge fan of Santa Cruz but I do believe he's asking Al Haymon for protection again...
After all, it's not the first time Santa Cruz ran to Al Haymon for protection,....
Oscar de la Hoya tried to make the Santa Cruz-Rigondoux fight and Santa Cruz wanted no part of it so he ran to Al Haymon for protection...
        FACTS!

It used to be that the only mentions of Al Haymon were him being involved in making fights. Now it feels like he is just involved in blocking fights.

He could be right. If GRJ does well it makes Loma look great.

People don't realize Haymon is the same as Arum and any other promoter.

The only difference between Haymon and Arum, is the fact that Haymon doesn't want the spotlight, and is smart enough to keep his opinions behind close doors.

Russell Jr. is insinuating that he wants that Devin Haney bag and shine on DAZN.

legally and technically he has to, against Ali Act, but paradoxically he helps fighters make money, which is what the Ali Act is mainly about, first and foremost.

Agreed. He’s so worried about getting the big money fight that he has forgotten to out himself in a position for the big money fight.
