  • Comments Thread For: Vergil Ortiz: Huge Honor To Co-Main Event For Canelo Alvarez

Fighting on Saul "Canelo" Alvarez's undercards and at notable venues in Las Vegas have become the norm for rising junior welterweight prospect Vergil Ortiz Jr. Some fighters never get to experience what Ortiz has in 12 professional fights. He's fought once at AT&T Stadium and MGM Grand Garden Arena, and twice at T-Mobile Arena with a third visit scheduled next month.

"Ortiz, who has knocked out all 12 of his opponents, plans to return to junior welterweight after the Cinco de Mayo weekend bout.

But Ortiz doesn’t see himself staying at 140 pounds for long and wanted to test himself against the savvy veteran Herrera, who has faced Danny Garcia, Jose Benavidez Jr. and Ruslan Provodnikov."

Another 21 yr. old on the fast track! Lots of young talent! He's another one who knows his body is changing, and can't stay down too long! I wonder how long Haney can stay @ 135? SALUTE to the young guns! Subriel Matias, Let's Go! There's work out here for you!

One of the worst crap undercards ever!! Long for the days of Don Kings loaded Ppv cards.

Ortiz one of my favorite prospects and for being the co-main event and only 12 fights in is surprising especially being it's his welterweight debut. To put him against a faded and old Mauricio Herrera, come on! People paid hundred and thousands to see some good fights. This unfortunately is not one of them. Golden Boy pushed the boundary when they made Munguia a co-main event which was a mismatch and easily forgettable fight under the Canelo/GGG 2, followed by his own main event which he's been looking mediocre recently. Lets hope they don't rush Ortiz and ruin the kid's career. Funny De la Hoya decided not to make his so called hottest prospect Ryan Garcia as the co-main event despite his relationship with Canelo.

garcia mentioned he would be back on the undercard but after millers failed test he posted that his new fight date is looking to be June 1st most likely on the aj card

Great main event **** Undercard though good for Vergil he should be getting all the hype Ryan Garcia gets as he's a far better fighter than him
