Comments Thread For: Arum: Terence Crawford Reminds Me of Sugar Ray Leonard

Terence Crawford has welcomed comparisons to the legendary Sugar Ray Leonard and considers himself the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world. The unbeaten Crawford will put his WBO welterweight title on the line against Amir Khan at Madison Square Garden in New York on Saturday. It represents a daunting task for Khan, given Crawford is a three-weight world champion and considered among the pound-for-pound greats.

He needs to fight Spence and Spence needs to fight Crawford. Until then we can't compare them to legends they both still have more to prove.

Ah no. I don't think Crawford beats a Duran, and he get's destroyed by Hearns. He wouldn't beat Benitez either. His best win is against a fighter the level of Leonards first 10 opponents. Not as fast, not as powerful, not a durable not as ring smart. He is not Sugar Ray Leonard. Total bull.

Nor Mayweather or Sweet Pea and don't have as good of defense and has not fought NEARLY the comp yet.Craw is a VERY good fighter who COULD end up great.Everyone needs to sloooooow waay down for now his best win is still Postal a good fighter but was not EVER in PFP discussion.BTW just for record I think he deserves his #2 spot but part of that is we are in a new generation and NO ONE has beaten a list of guys who are PFP or close or at least were.Loma has a few who were at least talked about if not in(Rigo,Walters,Linares)

As a fighter I like Crawford, but truth be told he ain't got quality fighters on his CV, the fact that khan is the best fighter he's fought says it all.

I've put money on this fight being a draw.

Unfortunately most contemporary boxers will have difficulty establishing the same kind of legacy as boxers of the past. The talent pool is just too small in today’s landscape. As amazing as bud is, Spence maybe the only elite opponent on his resume if they meet. Even then with what Spence has done to this point, could he be considered a HOF boxer? Probably not. Leonard had Benitez, Duran and hearns...

It’s a promoters job to say such things. Bud can only beat who’ll step in the ring with him and what his era produces and he’s doing well so far. He is a special talent. Leonard special? I doubt it. Leonard is one of the absolute most special fighters in history.
