  • Comments Thread For: Teofimo Lopez Motivated To Expose The Lomachenko "Illusion"

By Thomas Gerbasi - The confidence of Teofimo Lopez isn't obnoxious. It's matter of fact, and if you don't believe him, it's almost confusing to him that you can't see what he's seeing. But the thing is, there are starting to be more believers than skeptics when it comes to the unbeaten lightweight, who looks to move to...

I'm starting to think it's all talk. They want to use Loma's name to get headlines and media coverage to make Teofimo's name, just like this article, but then it seems like they're going to run to to 140 without ever fighting Loma and fight someone easier.

Teofimo is already throwing out excuses, and roadblocks, to the fight happening. Stuff like, to paraphrase, "I can only make 135 until December, but Bob wants to do it 5 weeks later after the Superbowl. I don't know if my body can make 135 after December."

Hey, I'd rather it happen in December too than wait until February 2020, but if you're going to use a 5 week difference (Superbowl is first week of February) to avoid the fight then you never wanted it to start with and this was all for show. So we'll see what happens.

They did the same with AJ-Wilder like overnight. It was almost as if one of the promoters or execs told them, "OK we're ready now, start building it for us."

It would be great to get some insight into how boxingscene operates with the promoters because you're right, it's supposed to be a news site and yet it really feels more like a hype site working for the promoters. Even the way this article was written seemed intentionally divisive as if trying to get fans emotionally invested in the fight, writing things like "whether you like it or not," etc etc, sort of trolling the readers, helping Teofimo sell himself as the villain to Loma or whatever. You said it right, it's like he works for the promoters, but you were wrong to say just Arum, I've noticed it with all these big fights.

Go ahead, get a belt and get your ass kicked already. Bob tried to protect Teofimo but can't protect him from himself. Oh and his father, Lopez senor, he keeps it about as real as Danny Garcia's father...he's full of s-h-i-t

I care about the fight. It's two of the most athletic explosive guys in the sport, definitely the two most at 135. But I agree, the talk is getting old. I like that Teofimo is trying to sell the fight, but repeating bigoted myths about Lomachenko, a fighter who already has a lot of prejudice against him, is crossing the line, like saying Top Rank is protecting Loma, they put together the Crolla fight to push an illusion, it's all fake bull****, etc etc, when Top Rank didn't even want the Crolla fight and it was forced on them by Hearn and the WBA, is just a bad look because Teofimo may not realize this, but there are prejudiced fan-media out there with large audiences who are going to take that quote and use it as "proof" of all their most prejudiced opinions about Loma and Top Rank in general.

It's one thing to sell the fight, it's another to say things that are going to contribute to further prejudice and lies about someone else who does not deserve it.

This is common in boxing nowadays, they (Promoters/Managers) etc use sites, social media (Youtube channels) for example to influcence people.

All this is making Lopez look like a "Bad a*s" to posters who aren't really deep when it comes to their boxing experience and knowledge.

This guy should take a few fights in the UK & main land Europe. It would do his credibility no harm what so ever & would surely increase his experience & exposure.
