  • Comments Thread For: Dillian Whyte Formally Contests WBC Ruling on Wilder-Breazeale

Dillian Whyte remains one of the few notable heavyweights presently without a fight-unless you count the one to which he's presently attached his name. The top-rated contender has filed a formal appeal with the World Boxing Council (WBC), challenging a ruling that allowed Dominic Breazeale to be named as a mandatory contender for Deontay Wilder's title. The two will square off May 18 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, with the Showtime headliner formally announced last week.

Whyte should have been the mandatory not Breazeale. Any reasonable person would agree. Haymon has the WBC in his pocket though.

Just mention Luis Ortiz to Whyte and he will cry and shut up.

Breazeale is #4, Whyte is #1.

In the words of Whyte himself, "let's see what happens"

The WBC **** the bed with this one. Breazeale was fighting Stiverne for the final eliminatior. Stiverne was mandatory at the time. Ortiz got popped, Stiverne fought Wilder instead. Breazeale then fought Molina to become mandatory.

How it got to the point where Whyte supposedly became a mandatory is the fault of the WBC.

The basis for Whyte's claim is slightly different. The WBC called for Whyte - Breazeale eliminator to be made interim champion and mandatory challenger: Whyte took decisions on the basis of that mandate, and Whyte did not pull out of the mandated fight.

The WBC rules have lots of discretion and wriggle room though, I'd be surpised if he can make a lawsuit stick.
