Comments Thread For: WBC To Rule on Dirrell, Benavidez, Yildirim - 168 Layout

On February 23, 2019, Anthony Dirrell fought Avni Yildirim for the then vacant WBC Super Middleweight World Championship. That highly entertaining and competitive match resulted in a split technical decision. Unfortunately, the fight ended via a stoppage during the actions of the 10th round, due to the severity of a cut Dirrell sustained as a result of an accidental head butt.

I don't follow that stuff, I follow boxing and Turkey has a population of 80 million and there has never been a single Turkish World champion EVER in a sport with 17 weight divisions and 4 world titles per weight! They can't fight at all.

WBC? Why don't they just make belts for all of them?

I think he means they can't box. With a population so big, they statistically should have had a high chance of winning a belt in one of the divisions.

I'm assuming it's not that popular there, meaning the likely best athletes don't ever take up the sweet science.

It doesn't matter how big the population is in Turkey if they are not a boxing nation which they are not. That explains why they have not had a world champion boxer in any division.
