Kownacki needs to actually beat someone credible before he can be considered a credible opponent for Wilder.

If he beats the likes of Ortiz, Joyce, Whyte, Povetkin then a Wilder match would be huge. Wailing on Gerald Washington hardly proves much.

By that reckoning; who did Stiverne (2nd time), Washington, Arreola, Molina and Szpilka beat to deserve a shot at Wilder? What has Breazeale truly done to earn his mandatory shot? Duhaupas at least beat Charr beforehand, I suppose. Fury and Ortiz were great opponents, but it had been years between either beat anyone decent and when they fought Wilder.

I thought that might be the case. Still, I think Kownacki - inexperienced as he is - would give Wilder a harder fight than any of his previous opponents apart from Ortiz and Fury.
Mind you, this all might be academic for the immediate future if Wilder takes this DAZN deal he's been offered. Minimum $80m for fighting Breazeale, then Joshua twice. That will take him and the WBC belt off the table until sometime around summer 2020, and would leave everyone else forming a not-so-orderly queue to face the undisputed champ, be that Joshua or Wilder.

I think Kownacki is the good but he lacks experience to do anything to the top 4/5 guys. Offensively he is a good fighter but to be honest I would pick someone like Andy Ruiz to beat him now.
