Comments Thread For: Sergey Kovalev To Dmitry Bivol: I'm Ready, What About You?

On Saturday night in Verona, New York, Russia's Dmitry Bivol dominated Joe Smith over twelve rounds, winning by a unanimous decision to retain his World Boxing Association light heavyweight world title for the fifth time. The 28-year-old Bivol won on the scorecards of all three judges at the Turning Stone Resort Casino -- two had it at 119-109 while the other put it at 118-110.

This would be a great fight. I’m leaning towards Bivol due to youth but if Kovalev boxes smart he can probably pull it off.

Bivol is really good. Guy is fast and has solid conditioning. What he lacks in size, he makes up with speed and accuracy. But kovalev is still no joke. I thought his last fight was very impressive and he showed growth. He’s a very good champion and hopefully kovalev unifies with either Bivol or Beterbiev soon.

Bivol doesn't have the power, but he has the hand speed and Kovalev is getting lit up.

I think Bivol's foot movement in and out would net him a close decision in a fight he gets rocked now and then.

I like Bivol's footwork but even slow as molasses Joe Smith was able to time him a few times.

Kovalev is a much better boxer than Joe Smith. I'm still not sure who will win this one yet.

I was surprised Smith looked so basic and awful last night. And yet he still had more than a few good moments.

Didn’t Bivol fight Jean Pascal most recently?

Beterbiev KOs both and KOs Andre Ward afterwards the same night.
