Comments Thread For: Verdejo Takes in Arum's Warning, Aims To Prove His Worth

Last week, Top Rank CEO's Bob Arum issued a warning that the upcoming commitment that Felix Verdejo will have on April 20 in New York, will be the last opportunity to show that he deserves to be in mix for a world title shot and to continue working with Top Rank. Those comments did not surprise the entourage of Verdejo, who signed a contract to go pro in 2012.

I like Arum.....He demands the best from fighters and makes good fights .....I wish Crawford could fight Spence but I dont think PBC would allow it.

Clearly the promoter thinks the fighters work for him, instead of him working for the fighters.

That's part of what's wrong with boxing.

Loma is The best in the Junior LightWeight and Lightweight Class.....Bud Crawford is The Best in the Junior Welter and Welterweight....the fact that vagina davis and the lot of welters at Protecting Boxing Cowards (PBC) are running in a herd like prey do tells you alot.....Bud is running solo like a Predator.....by your name Mexfistology I gather you are of Mexican descent....like ODLH and Stephen Espinosa.....well , let me tell you something.....PBC has been feeding most of the Mexicans and mismatching them (Garcia vs Spence) to crush the mexicans and elevate themselves.....Boxing is the only sport where you can root for your kind and it aint racist....that is why I Love Our Sport The Sweet Science.....non of that politically correctness applies around here....So who do you think can defeat Loma at Junior Lightweight or Lightweight????????

I agree with you in principle, especially Crawford, and while I'm not one to ever defend Arum, PBC plays an equal role there as they control the Spence/Therman/Pac group these days, and Crawford vs any of those guys is what we really want (or Garcia, or Porter).

Harder to criticise on the Loma front though.
-Ring #1 Garcia: He's up at Welter fighting Spence
            - Ring #2 Commey: Fight was scheduled but Commey had to back out due to injury
            - Ring #3 Easter:
            - Ring #4 Crolla. Mandated on Loma, so fight proceeding as a replacement for Commey
            - Ring #5 Campbell
            - Ring #6 Pedraza. Fought and beat.
            - thereafter Haney/Lopez/Fortuna/Tagoe

So hard to see what else Loma could be doing right now except (a) taking on a Junior Lighteight in Berchelt or Tank - and Loma's already said he would go down to 130 for Tank, but so far the Tank side has been skittish enough that it doesn't look like that will happen any time soon (b) Lopez - but to schedule Lopez (or anyone else) now would mean losing a belt for not meeting the Crolla mandatory now the Commey unification is off.

I guess a Linares rematch might be in order, but not sure Linares knows where he is at the moment - complaining that making 135 too hard one minute, then 140 too big for him the next.

So I think can cut some slack on the Crolla fight given Commey was first choice and Commey got injured - but yes, lets see what Loma does next. I presume it will be Commey for the IBF strap, after that it depends what happens with Garcia and his WBC strap, as Loma makes no secret he wants them all.
