  • Comments Thread For: Erickson Lubin's Coach Wants Castano Next: "Lubin KO's Him"

Erickson Lubin was a very interested observer of Saturday night's WBA "regular" super welterweight title fight that took place in Brooklyn, New York. The champion, Brian Castao, retained his title with a split draw against former champion Erislandy Lara. The final scores were 115-113, 113-115, and 114-114.

Lubin certainly needs to prove his chin is not suspect, but I wouldn't let the Charlo KO cloud my judgement. Lubin just walked into a big shot while being cold. It was Lubin getting dropped early in his career to a journeymen that is the most damaging thing.

But no, Castano certainly won't walk through Lubin as you are making it seem. This would be a really good fight. I think Lubin still needs one more fight against a lesser level fighter before fighting the best at 154. At the end of 2019 this fight would surely make sense.

i'm not saying brian would walk through him, just that brian is not just a pressure fighter, he can box too. he doesn't need to go toe to toe with lubin to beat him

Now that's how you MAN UP! I would rather see Lubin vs. Sergio Garcia of Spain, or Lubin vs. Lara (which could sell in Florida), however Castano would be even better!

Of course, I never said he would have to just go and try to knock Lubin's head off. Castano is skilled, though still a bit raw in certain areas. You don't compete with Lara the way he did by having a sub-par skill set.

This would be a competitive fight. If Lubin proves his chin is good enough for the top level, I'd favor him slightly. Think his combination punching is better, and someone coming to him suits his style. But if his chin is not good enough? Then good chance Castano gets a late stoppage or drops him once or twice for a decision win.

Right!! Lubin has to get dropped again for me to agree that he has a suspect chin.

To me it isn't he has to get dropped again, but to me it is he has to prove he can take a shot without getting dropped or stopped before I say he has a decent enough chin. Jack got blasted in round one, but then later proved his chin was just fine. Time for Lubin to do the same.

He deserves the fight off the strength of his spot-on prediction of Lara/Castano!

And why did Castano look like Brandon Rios from the side and the back??? Maybe it was the haircut and the posture, but I couldn't get past it.
