Comments Thread For: Denys Berinchyk Plans For Busy 2019 To Continue Rise at 135

Unbeaten contender Denys Berinchyk is planning to keep it busy this year in order to elevate his ranking position in the lightweight division. The Ukrainian fighter, who crowned his long and successful amateur career with a silver medal at the London Olympic Games in 2012, is currently rated No. 11 by the WBO at 135 pounds and his goal is to improve that position by participating in meaningful matchups in 2019.

When you set a date and venue even before you know your opponent, it's usually hard to get a top 15 rated boxer...

      How about
      Ryan Garcia?
      Teofimo Lopez?
      Devin Haney?

I don't think they would go to Ukraine to fight him, but those would be interesting fights AFTER his April fight, and those fights would be easy to make as they are they are young rising stars who feel they can take on anybody. Berincyk is 30 a former amateur standout and is known on social media for his ring entrances, one time he came to the ring in handcuffs and shackles and a man with a machine gun watching him, another time he came to the ring on a horse.

Hard to tell at this stage - he's got an awkward style and looks like he might have that 'Provodnikov factor' to take people like Lopez to the trenches to see where they are at.

Else someone like Lopez might just spark him early....guess we need to see what he's like when the opposition level goes up. Just mark him down as a maybe for the timebeing (vs Lopez who I think is a sure bet).
