  • Comments Thread For: Hugo Ruiz: I'm 100% Ready To Knock Gervonta Davis Out!

Barely two weeks ago, Hugo Ruiz was forced to settle for a replacement opponent in a fight originally intended for a portion of the 126-pound title. He now finds himself in the role of late replacement, challenging for a 130-pound title. The 30-year from Los Mochis, Mexico-who is now based in California-has agreed to terms for a February 9 showdown with unbeaten super featherweight titlist Gervonta Davis. Ruiz takes the fight as a late replacement for Abner Mares, who was forced to withdraw after suffering an elbow injury.

according to boxrec, this guy is a former bantamweight. just a couple years ago. even for two weeks notice, that's weak.

Dude is fresh off the AB/Pacquaio card... & is already in boxing shape.
(The layoff + Mares being out could change Tank's motivation)

          Just sayin'

One can dream, but the truth is, Hugo picked up a title at 122, lost it in his very next fight, and has never been a big puncher. Now he's facing a BLUE-CHIP young champ who makes 130 by the skin of his teeth. Everyone wants an upset here, but this doesn't end well for Ruiz. I'll still be rooting for him though.

Originally had Davis by KO in the mares matchup. once the odds come out, I'm Gonna go for Davis straight win. You never know with these late replacements they're tricky.

                Re

Hasn't fought anyone that I know, yet his face looks familiar...I'm thinking I may have saw him in one of the opening fights, on ESPN or something, that I'll sometimes fast forward through, to get to the featured fights?

Ruiz is giving away weight and power. I don’t see any other outcome but a KO loss. A lot of people don’t realise that the fight prep cycle is not something you can abuse too much, fighting again at a new weight class just 21 days after a camp risks over training burn out and a sub par performance.
